Surveying her home in ruins after a fire, Faremise Jean-Louis (left) beckoned in a camera-toting stranger — a startling gesture of welcome at any time, and all the more amid grief. As we talked, her sister came by to console her – and to help sort, salvage, mend, and rebuild from what remained.

All proceeds from this and other Haiti prints will go to the New Vision community art school in Port-au-Prince, where founder Lesly Pierre-Paul and other painters teach kids to channel their own self-expression through techniques informed by traditional vodou culture and and iconography.
